This marks the second year Astro has had the privilege of bringing our community together for this important cause. STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service) is a non-profit air ambulance organization that provides critical care and rapid medical transport for patients in need across Western Canada. When emergencies happen in rural and remote regions...where distance, terrain, and weather can make traditional ground transport difficult...STARS delivers hospital-level care right to the patient’s side. Their red helicopters are a familiar and reassuring sight across Alberta skies, often representing the difference between life and death.
As a non-profit, STARS relies heavily on the generosity of individuals, organizations, and community partners. While a portion of its funding comes from government contributions, over half of STARS’ operational costs are covered by donations, corporate sponsors, and fundraising events like STARS Among Us. Every ticket purchased, every item bid on, and every dollar donated helps ensure this lifesaving service can continue to respond 24/7—no matter how far from the city the call comes in.
Our field technicians almost always work on remote sites. The oil and gas industry knows how important it is to have a service like STARS to assist in a medical emergency when most sites are hundreds of kilometres from the nearest hospital. The highly trained medical teams and rapid-response helicopters are uniquely equipped to reach worksites quickly, stabilize patients, and transport them to the appropriate medical facility...saving valuable time when every second counts.
